how much?

i have been often asked, “how much do you charge to create a web site?” or how much for this service or that. my answer has always been “it depends.” and sometimes people do not get it. generally, it depends what the client wants and how much work they want me to do.

buyers are always looking for bargains. that’s how it is these days. they’ll try to get as much as they can for their money. i know i would.

simple web sites (5 to 20 static pages) are cheap and fast to create. big sites oviously take longer to make and are more expensive. add databases and php or perl programming to create a dynamic web site and costs go higher still. plus, the fees for a domain name, a hosting provider and the design for the site has to be factored in and fees for each vary depending of the needs of the client.

one can start on a free web site but people always want more eventually. so, for a simple web site with its own domain name and hosting solution, fees can start at around Php 9,000.00 per year if the client wants to do everything themselves. when i say everything it means creating the html pages, the stylesheets and images, uploading all those to the web server, test them for broken links and then start submitting them to the search engines. as in everything. this also means that the client should know (or learn) all of this web stuff — from xhtml tags to css stylesheets to javascripts to code optimization, ftp programs, upload directories, robots.txt, link checkers, how search spiders work and a lot more smaller details.

if the client decides that they cannot do all of things i listed above or that they do not have the time to all of those things then they usually contact someone like me. and i would say, “it depends. e-mail me what you want to happen and let’s take it from there.”
