pissed at some vendors
today i’m pissed at a vendor. no, i’m not going to name names. they know who they are.
before getting quotations for a project, i specified the hardware components that i needed and in what quantity i needed them. one of the items i listed are four (4) units of a 300 gigabyte sata hard drive. i specified in that they must be the same model because i was going to use all four of them as a raid 5 array.
what the supplier did was deliver three (3) 300 gigabyte maxtor sata drives (6v300f0). i called them up to asked what happened to the 4th. the answer was something in the line of, “did you order four?” ugh #1. the purchase order (po) faxed to the supplier said four sata drives. he said he had to check and get back to me. when he did get back to me a few days later he said he cannot get he same model anymore but he can send another drive that’s the same capacity but different brand — seagate (st3300831as). i have nothing against seagate. but i did specify that i wanted the same model. besides, those two models doesn’t even have the same exact specs. ugh #2.
after a couple of minutes, a tech guy from the same company calls up and and said, “hello sir, what seems to be the problem with the maxtor drives?” he sounded a little miffed. i simply said, “well, i will be using the four sata drives in a raid 5 array. that’s why i need four drives of the same model because they will be part of this raid array. the problem is i ordered four drives and you guys delivered only three. i did not ask for three maxtors and one seagate. i asked for four drives of the same model and you guys only delivered three. that is the problem.” he didn’t call again. ugh #3.
why do people make it hard? its sooo simple. read. understand. do.
order of 4 hard drives of the same model comes in. get the 4 hard drives from distributor. deliver hard drives to the consumer. get paid. is that really hard to do?
we arrived at a solution where they will deliver a unit with the brand and model by the end of this month. i specifically said that if they do not deliver, then i will return the other three drives and get another set of four drives from another supplier.
