3. internet explorer

i’ve read in the ieblog that internet explorer 7 beta1 does not improve its support for web standards. to be honest, that bit of news doesn’t really surprise me. ie6 also lacks support for web standards. microsoft likes to make life a little more interesting for web developers. in fairness, the post in ieblog also said that they want to build up ie7 to “fully comply with appropriate web standards”. i’m just wondering what’s appropriate for who.

i’ve also read a call to boycott ie by paul thurrott. although the idea is radical, its something that would openly endorse whenever possible. i’ve encountered private web-based applications that requires using ie so i cannot really escape using it. ie is as common as carbon monoxide — its there, you can avoid it but once it a while it gets to the lungs.

so my suggestion would be to use mozilla firefox and/or opera and use only internet explorer when you absolutely need to. i’ve relegated ie to the number 3 spot in the browsers i use. and i only use three browsers.
