new memory module, sort of
i got a second hand memory module the other day. cheap. its a 512 meg ddr266 (that tells you how old my rig is) which will replace one of two 256 meg modules that i have.
the “new” dimm works fine but now i have an extra 256 meg ram. so i decide to sell it over at pinoypc.net and tipidpc.com. someone answered the ad and i go over to meet the guy and test the module on one of his systems.
it doesn’t work. the pc didn’t want to boot. he tried it on the other memory slots. it still refused to work. ugh. embarassing, to say the least. my apologies to denz.
so i go back home and i decide to clean the contacts of the dimm and plug it back into my system and the dang thing works. grrrr. for good measure i go over to a friend’s place and it also works in his system.
weird. its either the contacts were dirty or the module is just picky about where it wants to stay. or worse, it doesn’t want to part with me.
ugh.
i’ll try to sell it again tomorrow after a few more tests.
