kubuntu live cd: 1024×768 finally

i finally found a way for the live cd of kubuntu (6.06.1) to go 1024×768 on me without installing the distro on my system. unfortunately, i have not found a way to do it in ubuntu.

first i had to change the display in the system settings to a generic display set at 1024×768:

choose a monitor

next thing to do was to set the screen size to 1024×768:

change the screen resolution

clicking on apply, the system asked me to log out and to restart the x server:

restart x server

the screen went to a dialog box with a couple of options to end session or shutdown the computer. i clicked on “end session” and the screen went blank but it displayed a login dialog box (username/password) and a “menu” button. clicking on the menu button it showed me a list of options one of which is “restart x server” (or ctrl+e). kubuntu restarted the x server and returned me to the login dialog box but this time the screen is in 1024×768. yey!

and now its 1024x768

time to play. of course, since its a live cd, the settings will not be saved so i have to reconfigure it again once i boot up kubuntu.
