a computer book in grade school

grade 3 computer booki was looking over the computer book that my son uses in school. it has the usual stuff about the computer, its history and its components written in 63 pages — within three chapters (the book has only five). the rest of the chapters is about using windows and its accessories (92 pages).

the first thought that ran through my head is that they’re teaching 8 to 9-year old kids how to use windows already. i don’t normally do not give these things a second thought before but this time there was this small buzzing “nag” at the back of my head. why windows only? why not how to use another graphical user interface? there’s the osx for the mac. and there’s also gnome/kde for linux.

well, pirated or not, windows is all over the place for years. osx as well but hardware to run it on is in limited quantities. linux is free but it only became really popular within the past few years.

i hope that the situation changes soon. not everyone these days run windows.
