ajax spikes
i was beginning to wonder why vlc would pause playing a video whenever i launch firefox and log in to yahoo. i figured something has to be sucking cpu resources to make a program pause for a second or two.
so i did some testing of my own. i fired up taskman and started launching stuff.
the first spike is when i launched firedox 2.0. the second spike is when i logged into yahoo! mail beta. the last spike was when i logged into gmail. all i did was log on. i didn’t open any mails or perform any task.
to be fair, i also tested it on internet explorer 7 and opera 9.02 it seems that ie7 takes a lot less resources than the other two browsers. the first spike is launching ie7, the next tall spike is logging in to yahoo! mail beta and the last one is logging in to gmail.
opera takes the cake at using a lot of cpu resources to process the yahoo! mail beta page (middle spike). the first spike is lanching opera and the last spike is loading gmail.
the results are essentially the same. yahoo! mail beta takes a lot of resources when i log in. i guess the ajax bling-blings that the new yahoo! mail brings is a bit heavy on the browsers.
