limp computing
i’m limping about. one of my memory modules went south and i’m left with 256 megabytes of memory. i thought to myself that this should be enough for most of the stuff that i do with the computer. i was wrong.
i remember a couple of days ago i finished a complete reinstall of windows on a laptop. it was a pentium m running at 1.6ghz with 256 meg ram. after installing the base windows it felt zippy — pretty fast for a laptop. but once i installed more software — security updates, anti-virus, anti-spyware, messaging and a beefier firewall, etc. the computer’s pace went down to a slow jog of sorts. and its not really doing any work yet.
now its the same with my desktop. its slow and i still have to run more programs to do my work. aaaarrrgh.
lesson: 256 megabytes of memory is not enough to work on. i was satisfied with 768 meg but i would probably be happier with 1 gigabyte or more. i need to get more memory…
… and another job. sigh.
