more time to prepare

i just read that microsoft is extending support for windows xp up to 2014. i cannot say i’m really surprised with that news. i think ms realizes that with the steep and somewhat costly hardware requirements that the aero bling-bling brings is another hurdle to adoption of vista.

most of the current systems out there will be able to run vista, yes. and its most likely in business mode but not the ultimate. so essentially, you’d be buying a rather large security update to xp. that’s my take. i don’t know about yours.

all this means is that people are deciding to stay with xp and by extending support for the system, microsoft is keeping these people in the fold and out of linux. the other side of the coin says it also means there is more time for people to prepare for a move to linux.
