easy things

i met with a couple of people a few days ago about making e-mail newsletters and maybe some web dev. as the meeting started, two of them brought out their mac books. as for me, the tech nerd that i am, brought . . . nothing. 8O at one time, as the meeting progressed, there three laptops on the table — the other running windows.

looking back at the meeting i realized that those people are not really techies in the nerdy sense of the word — although one guy was a windows game dev in a previous life. these are people utilizing technology that’s easy to use for them and that they’re comfortable with.

then i began to see that the mac is just that — easy. i’m not talking about specifics — os x, the touch pad, etc — but the whole thing as a system. okay, granted that everything on this planet has a quirk or three and windows or linux, for that matter, can be configured to be easy but mac users are generally happy with the system right out of the box. some of you readers may not agree with me but that’s ok. that’s fun too.

what i’m driving at here is that most people are not into that technical nitty gritty is-this-better-than-that kind of thing. most people consider their systems as tools to forward their trade or make their life a little easier.

that, i think, is how computers, and technology in general, should be — easy, unobtrusive.

… just sayin’
