hmmm… it appears that someone may be trying to spoof opendns. dns spoofing is another way of taking over websites — hackers try to take over a dns and redirect traffic from a legitimate site to a fake one (long story short).

5 segment ip address

i got this strange hit on the firewall. it blocked a 5-segment ip address. normal ip addresses today (ip4) has only 4 segments i.e. 192.168.2.1. the ip6 addressing (5 segments) is not yet in popular use.
either someone out there is using an ip6 address already or the firewall blocked a stupid spoofer/hacker.

it happened a couple of days ago. i was downloading something and i noticed that my traffic graphs started hitting 40+ kbps max. hmmm…. did pldt finally decide to do something right? so to check, i downloaded an iso of knoppix (696 meg, 1 file). here’s what i found out:

i decided to post interesting hits that my firewall gets every once in a while. this one is a distributed portscan and a decoy portscan. this went on for about an hour. i think someone’s trying to find open ports in the wall. or maybe a prelide to a dos attack.
